Laila Smith, a junior at Warren Central High, produced the fastest girls 300-meter hurdles performance in Indiana this season by clocking 43.49 seconds at North Central High, eclipsing the 2011 Marion County Championships record of 44.27 established by her cousin Ashley Spencer, a Lawrence North graduate and 2016 Olympic bronze medalist in the 400-meter hurdles. Smith also contributed to victory in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:57.22 and finished second in the 100-meter hurdles final in 14.84 seconds for Warren Central, which captured the girls team title with 104 points.
